The 2023 general election draws to a close today with the conduct of the governorship and state houses of assembly election. independent national electoral commission (INEC) has announced that the gubernatorial election will take place in 28 out of the 36 states of the federation. however, some states will not participate in the electoral process as a result of court rulings that have affected their participation in the four-year general election cycle.
The states of Imo, Kogi and Bayelsa will hold their governorship election later in the year, while Edo, Ondo, Ekiti, Osun and Anambra have held theirs in previous years at different times. these aforementioned states will only conduct the state houses of assembly election today.
INEC has reiterated its readiness for seamless conduct of the election as scheduled and also informed Nigerians that it will conduct the rescheduled national assembly elections in Enugu and Edo states on the same day. for a resounding success of Saturday’s election, all stakeholders must redouble their efforts to discharge their duties creditably and live up to the expectations of Nigerians.
